How to Get a Copy of a Lea Court Document
There are three main ways to obtain a copy of a court document: online, in person, or by mail.
Online
Through Odyssey Public Access, you can view the case register and some documents. To obtain official copies, you can submit a request through the IPRA (Inspect Public Records Request) system. Note: New Mexico courts do not conduct criminal background checks and do not store law enforcement or driving records.
In Person
Contact the clerk's office of the relevant court:
Lea County District Court
Lea County Magistrate Court — Hobbs
Lea County Magistrate Court — Lovington
Bring identification and know the case number or full name of the party. The clerk will make a copy on the spot.
By Mail
Send a written request specifying the case number, party names, and document type to the clerk's office of the relevant court. Include payment in the form of a money order or check payable to the court. Provide a return address.
Certified vs. regular copies. A regular copy is suitable for review. A certified copy is a document with the court's seal, confirming authenticity; it is usually required for submission to other courts, government agencies, or when processing transactions.
